New York City Mayor Eric Adams on Dec. 26 announced that, on Jan. 9, 2025, noon, he will deliver his fourth mayoral State of the City Address at The Apollo in Harlem, where he will discuss his administration's achievements over the past three years, the current state of the city, and how the Adams administration will continue to make New York City even safer and more affordable for working-class families. “Whether it's taking thousands of illegal guns off our streets, shattering affordable housing records over and over again, or putting billions of dollars back into the pockets of New Yorkers, our administration has fought every day to create a safer, more affordable city for working-class New Yorkers,” Adams said. “Thanks to our efforts, New York City is not only back; we are better than ever," he added. “But as we look to the future, we know there is even more we can do to uplift working-class families across the five boroughs, protect our streets and subways, ta...

2024: A record year of delivering for New Yorkers

When I was sworn in as the 110th mayor of New York City, I promised to “Get Stuff Done.” That has been our focus ever since coming into office, and this past year was no different. But, in 2024, we did more than just get stuff done — we delivered for you, every day and everywhere. We drove down crime, put billions of dollars back into working-class New Yorkers’ pockets, and shattered records for the most jobs, small businesses, and affordable housing construction in our city’s history. Thanks to our tireless police officers, New York remains the safest big city in America. Overall crime is down, with shootings, homicides, and transit crime all down by more than 6 percent this year. We put more police officers on our streets and took thousands of illegal guns, mopeds, and ATVs off of them. We seized more than 6,000 illegal guns in 2024, bringing the total number of guns removed from the streets to 19,600 since January 2022. We also cracked down on car theft and had 12 straigh...

New York City Mayor Eric Adams last Wednesday announced the appointment of Jessica Tisch as commissioner of the New York City Police Department (NYPD), effective Monday, Nov. 25. Tisch is the second female to serve as commissioner of the NYPD in its 179-year history; the first, Commissioner Keechant Sewell, was also appointed by Mayor Adams. Tisch — a 12-year veteran of the NYPD and the current commissioner of the New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) — will take the helm of the nation’s largest police department as overall crime continues to drop across the five boroughs for the 10th straight month, as of October 2024. As DSNY commissioner, Adams said Tisch has led the successful execution of his administration’s “Trash Revolution,” which has containerized 70 percent of the 44 million pounds of trash that New Yorkers set out on the curbs each day. “The people of this city have been clear that they agree with what our administration has been fighting for since day...
